How to Clean an Ice-O-Matic GEMU090
Ice machines are the foundation for perfectly chilled drinks and staying safe from the heat. From bars to restaurant kitchens, ice machines are a part of daily operations. How to Descale & Sanitize
Descaling and Sanitizing the Machine
- Step 1. Turn unit off - Press and release the On/Off button to turn the unit off.
- Step 2. Remove all ice - Remove all the ice from the machine before continuing.
- Step 3. Remove back wall - Unfasten the upper back wall screws, then remove the back wall by lowering it past the scoop holder.
- Step 4. Remove top panel - Remove the top panel from the machine.
- Step 5. Remove reservoir cover - Push the tab on the front edge of the reservoir cover and lift up to remove it.
- Step 6. Turn off float valve - Turn the float valve lever to the off position.
- Step 7. Drain reservoir and evaporator - Pull out the drain plug to drain the evaporator and reservoir. Once the unit is finished draining, put the plug back in place.
- Step 8. Fill reservoir with descaler - Fill the reservoir with half of a 16 oz. bottle of diluted scale remover.
- Step 9. Start cleaning cycle - Press and hold the Clean-Reset and On/Off buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. The “Time to Clean” light should blink on and off. Wait about 15-20 minutes for the cleaning cycle to run.
- Step 10. Fill reservoir - Fill the reservoir with the remaining half of the bottle of diluted scale remover.
- Step 11. Turn water on - Turn the water on by moving the float valve lever down.
- Step 12. Drain reservoir - Pull out the drain plug to drain the reservoir again. Reinsert the plug after it’s finished draining.
- Step 13. Turn valve off and add sanitizer - Turn the float valve off and add sanitizer
- Step 14. Drain reservoir - Drain the reservoir and turn the valve back on.
- Step 15. Put covers back on - Put the reservoir cover back on and then put the back wall of the bin on. Place the top panel back onto the machine.
Descaling and Sanitizing the Bin
- Step 1. Flush out machine - Pour one gallon of warm water in the bin to melt any ice and flush out the machine.
- Step 2. Add scale remover - Spray diluted scale remover to the bin liner and rinse with warm water.
- Step 3. Add sanitizer - Add sanitizer to the ice chute, ice sweep, breaker and bin interior.
- Step 4. Restart ice cycle - Push and release the On/Off button to restart the ice-making cycle.
- Step 5. Clean and sanitize scoop - Clean and sanitize the ice scoop, then place it back into the machine to air dry.
How to Clean Condenser Coils
The condenser needs to be cleaned at least once every 90 days to prevent dust and debris build-up.
- Step 1. Turn off machine - Turn the machine off by pressing the power button.
- Step 2. Remove kickplate and front panel - Unfasten the screws from the front service panel and the kickplate to access the coils.
- Step 3. Gently brush coils - Gently brush the condenser coil surface in an up and down motion to avoid damage.
- Step 4. Straight bent fins - Carefully straighten any bent fins. If any fins are severely damaged, contact an authorized service technician to further assist.
- Step 5. Reinstall kickplate and front panel - Fasten the kickplate and front service panel back onto the unit.
