How to Light & Use an Imperial Gas Range

If you just walked in for the opening shift, you’ll need to get the kitchen equipment started up. But, if the unit is brand new or it’s your first time opening, you could be stuck wondering what the proper procedure is to get the unit fired up and ready for the day. Before you start panicking, let Parts Town help you out. In this video guide, we’ll cover how to light and use an Imperial gas range so you’re good to go at the dinner rush. 

The following is applicable to gas range models such as the IR series

How to Light the Pilot

  • Step 1. Turn the oven thermostat to the OFF position.
  • Step 2. Lower the oven kickplate.
    • Note: Verify accumulated gas has dispersed before lighting the pilot.
  • Step 3. Turn the thermostat to PILOT and then press and hold the knob. 
  • Step 4. While still pressing and holding the knob, light the pilot until it remains lit with a yellow flame when the thermostat is released. 
    • Note: If the pilot doesn’t initially stay lit, repeat steps 1-4.
  • Step 5. Adjust the temperature knob to begin using the oven. 
  • Step 6. Reinstall the kickplate. 

How to Use

The commercial range has both a stove top and oven that can be used for cooking delicious entrees and more.

Oven Operations

  • Step 1. Light the pilot.
  • Step 2. Adjust the thermostat to the needed temperature setting.
  • Step 3. Wait for the oven to preheat.
  • Step 4. Load product into the oven and wait for it to fully cook.

Stove Top Operations

  • Step 1. Turn the cooktop thermostat knob to light the burner.
  • Step 2. Adjust to the desired temperature setting.
  • Step 3. Place a pan or pot with product that is safe for the stove top onto the burner and cook.
