How to Sear Shrimp

From pasta dishes to seafood entrees, shrimp can be a star of the plate when properly prepared. There’s many different ways to cook shrimp, from sauting to frying, the different methods have the power to turn your product into a delicious dish. We’re sharing all the important tips on how to sear shrimp that will work for tilt skillets or in a pan on the range. 

Searing Shrimp

  • Tip 1. Always add the proper cooking oil to your pan or tilt skillet before adding the shrimp.
  • Tip 2. Make sure each shrimp is lying flat in the skillet to ensure all pieces of shrimp gets time searing in the skillet or pan. 
  • Tip 3. Always start with dry shrimp so it isn’t watery and gets the proper seared finish. 
  • Tip 4. Cooking temperature will vary depending on the seasoning and marinade you use so be sure to consult your specific recipe for how high of heat to use. 
  • Tip 5. Halfway through the cooking time, you need to flip all the shrimps over to ensure an even sear on both sides. 
  • Tip 6. Large shrimp is better for searing with.
