How to Sharpen an Electric Meat Slicer

Cutting the perfect slice of meat and cheese requires equipment with a clean and sharp blade. After excessive use, though, you might notice the slicer has started to get worn out and left you with inconsistent and uneven cuts. This can all be avoided as long as you know how to sharpen an electric meat slicer. It’s vital to follow the steps properly to avoid accidents or damage to the blade.

It’s important to keep in mind that sharpening the blade lightly every few days is better than heavy sharpening at shorter intervals. It can be beneficial to incorporate this sort of commercial slicer maintenance into a routine preventative maintenance schedule. 

How to Sharpen a Meat Slicer Blade

  1. Power down the unit - Ensure the unit is fully powered down by unplugging the power cord. 
  2. Adjust the slice thickness dial - Turn the slice thickness dial clockwise and cover the knife’s edge with the gauge plate.
  3. Clean and dry the blade - Clean and dry the slicer blade by following our electric slicer cleaning video.
  4. Slide sharpener up the mounting post - slide the knife sharpener up the mounting post and rotate it 180 degrees.
  5. Lower the sharpener into position - Lower the knife sharpener with the handle pointing up and push the sharpener down until it clicks into position.
  6. Power on the unit - Power up the unit by plugging in the power cord and turning on the knife motor.
  7. Keep pressure on the sharpener - Pull the knife sharpener handle toward the front and keep pressure on the sharpener for 3-5 seconds.
  8. Turn off the knife motor - Power off the knife motor by pressing the STOP button.
  9. Rotate the sharpener - Rotate the sharpener back into its original place. 
  10. Clean slicer and grind shavings - Clean the entire slicer and ensure all grind shavings are cleaned up as well.
