How to Use a Cleveland Tilt Skillet
Tilt skillets, also referred to as braising pans, are an extremely versatile piece of equipment. They can do everything from grilling to shallow frying to help keep your commercial kitchen running and creating a variety of entrees and sides. So whether you just unpacked one out of the box or you’re new to a restaurant that has one, you might need the operation instructions. This guide will help walk you through how to use a Cleveland tilt skillet so you can craft delicious dishes with ease.
The following steps are applicable to most gas and electric Cleveland tilt skillet models, including the SGL-40-TR, SGM, SEL and SEM.
Operation Instructions
- Step 1. Connect to power - Power up the unit by plugging in the power cord and opening the gas valve.
- Note: Electric units won’t have a gas connection.
- Step 2. Power on - Press the power button to turn on the unit.
- Step 3. Set the temperature - Adjust the dial to the desired cooking temperature setting.
- Note: The unit will need 15-30 minutes to preheat before adding product.
- Step 4. Change the power output - Adjust the hi-low switch as needed to change the power output.
- Note: Not all models will have this switch.
- Step 5. Add a timer - Set the cooking timer by pressing the timer button and adjusting the dial. Product can be added at this time as well.
- Step 6. Unload cooked product - After the timer has gone off and product is properly cooked, the skillet can be unloaded. Depending on the model, tilt the skillet down either using the crank or automatic switch to unload.
- Note: Only tilt the skillet with the lid open.
- Step 7. Tilt up - Once product is unloaded, the skillet can be tilted back up with the crank or automatic switch.
- Note: The unit will stop heating when tilted down as a safety precaution. It will resume heating once it’s tilted back up.
