Maintaining and Replacing Aladdin Temp-Rite MD Series Cart Casters
In order to keep meal carts rolling smoothly, a little extra cleaning is required. Otherwise, they could slow or halt the unit altogether. So rather than making people wait for their dinner, try these tips for maintaining and replacing Aladdin Temp-Rite MD series cart casters. That way you can get meals served quickly.
This guide is applicable to most MD series units. Depending on the specific model, there could be 4 or 6 casters present that vary in size from 6 to 8 inches.
Supplies
Maintenance Supplies
- Blanket or tarp
- Cleaning cloths
- Water
- Multipurpose grease
Replacement Supplies
Maintenance
All maintenance should be performed at least once every 6 months.
- Step 1. Prepare working area - Lay down a blanket or tarp in the area you plan to work in.
- Step 2. Lay down the unit - Have at least 2 people work together to lay the unit down on its side onto the blanket or tarp.
- Step 3. Wash the casters - Use a damp cloth to clean debris from the casters.
- Step 4. Dry the casters - Use a separate, clean cloth to dry off the casters.
- Step 5. Find the fittings - Locate the grease fitting on each caster.
- Step 6. Grease the fittings - Lubricate all of the grease fittings with multi-purpose grease. This includes both the swivel hub bearings and axle shaft.
- Step 7. Put the unit upright - Have at least 2 people lift the cart to the upright position.
- Step 8. Test the unit - Roll the cart around to see if the casters work properly.
Replacement
Caster wheels should be replaced as needed. Replacement is needed when they’re damaged or if there’s tread wear present.
- Step 1. Prepare working area - Lay down a blanket or tarp in the area you plan to work in.
- Step 2. Lay down the unit - Have at least 2 people work together to lay the unit down on its side onto the blanket or tarp.
- Step 3. Take off the casters - Remove the old casters by unfastening the bolt screws.
- Step 4. Clean the holes - Use a damp cloth to remove debris near the open screw holes.
- Step 5. Install new casters - Align the new casters to the open holes and fasten the bolts firmly into place.
- Step 6. Grease the fittings - Locate the grease fitting on each caster. Then lubricate all of the grease fittings with multi-purpose grease. This includes both the swivel hub bearings and axle shaft.
- Note: Repeat steps 3-6 on additional casters as needed.
- Step 7. Put the unit upright - Have at least 2 people lift the cart to the upright position.
- Step 8. Test the unit - Roll the cart around to see if the new casters work.
