Besides having HVAC equipment routinely serviced by an authorized technician, it’s important to keep it well maintained as the homeowner. The unit, ductwork and surrounding area needs to be kept tidy so it remains in good working order. This guide will help walk you through what residential furnace maintenance and cleaning tasks need to be done in order to keep your unit looking and running like new.

Supplies

Cleaning

  • Step 1. Move large items and chemicals that are near or on the furnace or air intakes out of the way to keep the area clear.
  • Step 2. Dust the furnace and duct exteriors with a cloth or duster.
  • Step 3. Vacuum around the furnace base and air intakes to clean up dust and debris.
  • Step 4. Inspect the ductwork for dents or holes that need to be repaired by a service technician.

Additional Maintenance

Besides just tidying up your unit, there are additional preventative maintenance tasks that need to be done to keep your furnace running.

  • Filter replacement and maintenance - Depending on whether you purchase disposable or reusable filters, it’ll need to be cleaned or replaced altogether. Maintenance for the filters should be done at least every 3 months.
  • Routine inspection - Be sure to call an authorized service technician to schedule a routine inspection of the unit and components. This needs to be done at least once a year.

Please contact a local authorized service agent who can help with this specific unit and all your heating and cooling needs.
