Whether it's not working or it's constantly running, there are a few things that could be causing your HVAC equipment to not run properly. If you’re unsure where to start to remedy it, look no further. These residential gas furnace troubleshooting tips will help you get the house up to temperature and your unit to only run as needed.

Not Working or Heating

  • Unit is turned off - Turn on the furnace. 
  • Circuit breaker is off or tripped - Turn on or reset the circuit breaker.
  • Thermostat is set to COOL - Adjust thermostat to HEAT.
  • Thermostat temperature is set too low - Increase the temperature. 
  • Filter is dirty or damaged - Clean or replace the filter

Not Turning Off

  • Thermostat temperature is set too high - Decrease the temperature setting.
  • Faulty limit switch or thermostat - Contact an authorized service technician. 
  • Window or door is left open and causing a draft - Fully close the door and/or window.
