Star Vertical Contact Toaster Troubleshooting & Error Codes
From poorly cooked buns to the unit just not turning on all together, these can be a recipe for an unsuccessful lunch rush. You’re going to need a quick fix in order to get things back up and running. So, before you pick up the phone for a service call, check out these tips for Star vertical contact toaster troubleshooting and error codes.
The following tips are applicable to Star VCT models such as the SCT4000 and SCT4000E.
Not Working or Turning On
- The unit isn’t plugged in - Plug the power cord into the proper outlet.
- Note: If the cord is damaged, don’t plug it in. Contact an authorized service technician to replace it.
- The unit is turned off - Turn on the unit.
- The unit is still preheating - Allow the unit time to finish preheating.
- The wrong settings were used - Adjust the darkness and bun thickness settings to ensure the unit is working best with the product being used.
- The circuit breaker is off or tripped - Turn on or reset the breaker.
- The motor is faulty or damaged - Contact an authorized service technician.
- The high limit is tripped - Remove the black cover and press the button to reset the switch.
- Note: If the high limit repeatedly trips, contact an authorized service technician.
Over or Under Cooking Product
- The unit is turned off - Turn on the unit.
- The darkness setting wasn’t properly set - Make adjustments using the DARKER and LIGHTER arrow buttons.
- The bun thickness wasn’t properly set - Use the black knobs to adjust the bun thickness.
- The heating element is damaged - Contact an authorized service technician.
- The high limit is tripped - Remove the black cover and press the button to reset the switch.
- Note: If the high limit repeatedly trips, contact an authorized service technician.
Error Codes
If an error code is displayed on the unit, it will need to be remedied by an authorized service technician. These are what the error codes mean so you can give the right information when making a service call:
- RTD OPEN! - The RTD probe circuit is open or disconnected.
- RTD SHORT! - The RTD probe circuit has shorted.
- HIGH TEMP! - The set point temperature is at or above 75☌F due to a failing high limit thermostat, relay or control board.
- LOW TEMP! - The set point temperature is under 50☌F for 15 minutes due to a failing high limit thermostat, heating element, relay or control board.
