You can find french fries in all shapes and in every corner of the world. From curly fries to wedges, there are so many creative dishes that include french fries. Make any of these dishes a side dish or the main entrée at any restaurant. We have listed some amazing french fry dishes that you might want to try on your menu. Some of the dishes below are popular in countries that use the word chips instead of fries, but they are all french fry recipes.
- Poutine – Quebec’s famous dish, poutine is a savory dish of french fries and cheese curds. It is topped with gravy and served with a fork for mess-free eating. The exact origins of the dish aren’t known, but it started popping up in the late 1950s of Quebec.
- Loaded french fries – Swap out the baked potato and use french fries for this loaded side dish. Top your favorite fry shape with sour cream, green onions, bacon and cheddar. There are many varieties of loaded potato recipes that you can use for loaded fries as well. Add in bell peppers, jalapenos or hot sauce to make your fry dish stand out from the rest.
- Masala chips – These warm and spicy fries are full of flavor and a delicious masala sauce. The warm taste of masala will pair well with BBQ meats and foods. For spicier masala french fries, add extra chilies to bring up the heat.
- Chili cheese fries – A step up from cheese fries, chili cheese fries incorporates the best of both. Hot liquid cheddar cheese with a large heaping of warm chili on top of fries. Have it in half portions to have as a side with a burger or have a full plate of it for a delicious dinner meal.
- Pizza fries – These fries are usually larger ones like crinkle cut or steak fries, but try out a new shape like waffle fries for a fun twist. Top them off with cheese, pizza sauce and your favorite pizza toppings. Pepperoni is a very popular topping for this fry dish. Make the fries extra crispy to get that nice crunch to pair with the gooey cheese.
- Nacho fries – Eat some nachos but hold the chips. This delicious and filling dish has all the toppings of nachos with fries instead of tortilla chips. Top the fries with ground beef, cheese, sour cream, jalapenos and pico de gallo. Don’t forget the avocado to top off these loaded nachos.
- Patatje oorlog – Also called “war fries”, these french fries are a combination of mayonnaise, peanut sauce and topped with finely chopped onions. The name comes from Dutch, where this street food can be found. It is a messy and savory take on french fries that will add something new to your food.
- Chips mayai – Also known as zege, this dish is a popular food in Tanzania. The name means ‘chips and eggs’ in Swahili. Like an omelet with french fries, you can add any spices or vegetables to change up this dish. It is a simple, easy dish to add to breakfast or lunch menus.
- Chips and curry sauce – For a small addition to any food service menu, try just adding a new sauce for fries. Ketchup is old news and try offering a curry sauce with sides of fries. Use thicker cut french fries to make it easy to scoop up the sauce in every bite.
