St. Patrick's Drink Menu for Bars & Restaurants
Amanda Byk / Foodservice Tips, Holiday / February 28
Wearing green, eating a hearty meat and potatoes meal and having a pint are all great ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. If you’re looking to set your drink menu apart from the competition, you’ll want to include a variety of refreshing options. With the luck of the Irish, and this guide, you can create some new St. Patrick’s Day drinks for your restaurant.
Shamrock Smoothies
Whether you’re open for breakfast only or offer lunch and dinner options, a smoothie is a great healthy option to choose. For the coming holiday, consider more than just a simple green smoothie. Try something like a Green Goddess Smoothie that’s spinach-infused with honey and bananas.
If you’re looking to make it an adult drink, you can play around with creme de menthe, Midori melon liqueur, herb-infused spirits and more for a St. Paddy’s Day treat.
St. Paddy’s Day Drinks: Cocktails & Beer
Serving the classics is important, but not everyone wants Guinness. Try amping up your St. Patrick’s Day drink menu with these fun sweet and savory options:
- Ginger-Sage Rye Cocktail – Using fresh ginger and a spicy rye whiskey, you’ll have a new favorite menu item. Add a sage leaf for garnish.
- Clover Whiskey Sour – It’s simple and easy to make a clover whiskey sour. Take a fresh whiskey sour with some clover garnishes to add an Irish feel.
- Golden Irish Mule Cocktail – Replace the vodka with Irish whiskey and sprinkle in a bit of edible gold leaf for a festive touch.
- Baileys Irish Floats – Upgrade the typical ice cream float with Irish cream instead!
- Green Beer – Green beer is a classic. Simply take your customer’s favorite beer and add a few drops of green food dye for an Irish celebratory drink.
How To Make Green Beer Without Food Coloring?
Instead of using food coloring or other artificial dyes, you can give your drinks that bright green hue with ingredients such as wheatgrass, matcha or spirulina. Since they are all-natural, you can expect them to slightly alter the taste of your drink options. Here’s a quick breakdown of the flavors and colors of each in a St. Patrick’s Day drink:
- Wheatgrass – With wheatgrass, you’ll only need about one tablespoon at the bottom of the glass before you pour. This herb will give off a bit of a grassy taste but will be more vibrant of a green than the other options.
- Matcha – Using about one teaspoon of matcha will give your drink an olive green hue. When using this powder, be sure to mix in slowly until dissolved.
- Spirulina – This is an algae that can give a drink a metallic taste while only changing the color to a dark, hunter green. For this option, you’ll only need about half of a teaspoon. Add into a bowl and slowly add beer while mixing.
