What are Steam Pan Inserts Used for?

Steam pan inserts help prevent food from getting soggy in the condensation that’s produced by the steam table’s heating and warming method. To hold steady at 135℉ or higher generates a lot of steam, and that steam builds up as condensation on the sides of the pan. Eventually, gravity pulls those water droplets down to collect underneath the pile of food. Wire grates are inserted to store the meat, vegetables, bread, etc. above the collection point so that it doesn’t alter its chemical composition past the tasty threshold. 

What Size are Steam Pan Inserts?

Steam table pans come in a variety of sizes to fit just about every steam table pan assembly. Some of the most common sizes you’ll find on the market today include full size, half size, half size long, third size, quarter size, sixth size and ninth size wire grates for steam tables. They’re typically rectangular in shape but can also be square. Full size pan inserts are 10” x 18”, half inserts are 8” x 10” and third size are 5-⅛” x 10-⅞”.
