Manitowoc Ice Machine Shutdown and Start-Up Instructions

Manitowoc-Ice-Machine-Shutdown-and-Start-Up-Instructions

Starting up and shutting down a Manitowoc ice maker properly is essential if you want to prevent damage, maintain performance and ensure hygiene. If you’re looking for guidance, our Manitowoc ice machine shutdown and startup instructions will help you complete these procedures properly and successfully.

This guide is for Indigo and IndigoXT models, such as the I0300 and IDT0300A, respectively.

Shutdown Directions

Preparing the Unit

  • Step 1. Remove the front panel - Loosen the screws on the front panel with a Phillips screwdriver. The screws are secured to prevent loss, so don’t attempt to remove them fully.
  • Step 2. Wait for the current cycle to finish - Allow the ice machine to complete its current cycle and drop the ice from the evaporator into the bin before proceeding.
  • Step 3. Turn off the machine - Press the power button to turn off the unit.
  • Step 4. Empty the ice bin - Scoop the ice out of the bin and either store or discard it.
  • Step 5. Clean the unit - Follow the directions in our how to clean a Manitowoc ice machine article to prepare your machine for shutdown.

Finalizing Machine Shutdown

  • Step 1. Turn off the water supply - Switch off the water supply to the unit.
  • Step 2. Disconnect the water lines - Detach the drain and supply water lines at the back of the machine.
  • Step 3. Empty the water trough - Make sure the water trough is empty.
  • Step 4. Purge excess water - Press the power button to energize the unit for 1 minute so that the inlet valves can open and blow compressed air to push out any excess water within the machine. Once 1 minute has passed, push the power button again to turn off the ice maker. (This step is only needed if the machine is in a low ambient temperature below where water might freeze)
  • Step 5. Cut power to the unit - Flip the breaker/disconnect switch to the off position.
  • Step 6. Unplug the machine - Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

Estimated Time: 110 minutes

Startup Instructions

Preparing for Restart

  • Step 1. Reconnect the water lines - Reattach the water inlet and drain lines to the back of the unit.
  • Step 2. Turn on the water supply - Switch on the machine’s water supply, making sure to check for leaks.
  • Step 3. Plug in the unit - Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
  • Step 4. Restore power connectivity - Flip the breaker/disconnect switch to the on position.
  • Step 5. Turn on the machine - Press the power button to turn on the ice maker.

Sanitizing the Machine

  • Step 1. Run a cleaning cycle (if needed) - Complete a cleaning cycle if the unit has been idle for a long period of time. See our Manitowoc ice machine cleaning guide for step-by-step instructions.
  • Step 2. Begin a sanitizing cycle - Open the door and press the clean button. When prompted, select “Make ice after cycle complete”.
  • Step 3. Mix sanitizing solution - Prepare sanitizing solution according to the manufacturer’s directions. Refer to the user’s manual for guidance on the type and amount of sanitizer to use.
  • Step 4. Add sanitizer solution - Pour in sanitizing solution when prompted.
  • Step 5. Allow the sanitizing cycle to complete - Close the door and let the unit complete the sanitizing cycle. Note that if you selected “Make ice after cycle complete”, the machine will begin an ice-making cycle after completing the sanitizing process.
