Perlick Refrigeration Troubleshooting

Perlick is a leading manufacturer of commercial refrigeration equipment such as undercounter and back bar refrigerators. These units are great assets to any restaurant or bar because they provide point-of-use storage of drinks and ingredients, allowing food service staff to serve guests quickly and efficiently.

Although issues with these units are rare, those that do come up can be solved in no time. With this Perlick refrigerator troubleshooting guide, you will be able to solve any problems with your single-door undercounter or back bar refrigerator quickly and easily.

This guide is for HC, HB and HD single-door refrigerators and BBR, BBS, BBRLP and BBSLP back bar refrigerators.

No Interior Light

  • Rocker switch is turned “OFF” - Turn the switch “ON.”
  • LED board is inoperable - Contact a technician to service the unit.
  • Bulb is loose - Tighten the bulb.
  • Bulb is burned out - Change the bulb.

Light Stays On When Door Is Closed

  • Manual switch is “ON” - Turn the manual switch “OFF.”
  • Door switch is making contact with the plunger - Call a technician to remedy the issue.

Unit Is Noisy

  • Compressor, fan motor and valves are making soft noises - Soft sounds are normal when the unit is operating. If the unit becomes noisier than usual, schedule a service appointment with a technician.
  • Unit is not level - Contact a technician to level the unit.

Unit Is Not Running

  • No Power - First, make sure that the unit is plugged in and turned “ON.” If there’s still no power, check the circuit breaker. If the issue persists, call a technician.
  • Condenser is dirty - Clean the condenser.
  • Refrigerator control is not set properly - Reset the control.

Refrigerated Compartment Is Warmer Than Usual

  • Control is not set properly - Reset control presets.
  • Light stays on - Turn the manual switch “OFF.”
  • Condenser is dirty or obstructed - Clean the condenser and clear the obstruction.
  • Door or drawer has been open for a long time / opened more frequently - If the door isn’t kept closed, some variation in temperature is normal. Once the door is kept closed consistently, wait 24 hours and recheck the temperature.
  • Internal louvers and / or fan guard is obstructed - Clear the obstruction.
  • Warm product placed in refrigerator - It is normal for warm product to raise the unit’s temperature slightly for a period of time. If the temperature is still elevated 24 hours later, begin the troubleshooting process.

System Is Running For A Long Period Of Time

  • Condenser is dirty or obstructed - Clean the condenser and remove the obstruction.
  • Door or drawer has been kept open for a long time / opened more frequently - If the unit isn’t kept shut, some variation in temperature is to be expected. After keeping the unit shut consistently for 24 hours, recheck the temperature.
  • Warm product placed in unit - Warm product will likely raise the unit’s temperature for a number of hours. If the temperature is still higher than normal 24 hours later, start the troubleshooting process.
  • Hot weather / hot room - It is normal for the system to run longer when the surrounding air temperature is hot.

Condensation Inside / Outside The Unit

  • High humidity or frequent door openings - Some condensation is normal when the humidity is high or the door is opened frequently.
  • Door is not closing and sealing properly - Check the door seals and replace if necessary.
