Bakers Pride bread ovens offer the speed and efficiency needed to meet the demands of fast-paced foodservice establishments. Although these machines are built to last, occasional issues may still occur. If your equipment isn’t working as it should, this Bakers Pride bread oven troubleshooting guide will help you identify and resolve issues with ease.
This guide covers tips for Hearthbake electric and gas models (like the P-18 and GP-61), as well as SuperDeck electric ovens (such as the EB-2-8-5736).
Oven Won’t Turn On
- Unit is unplugged - Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
- Machine is turned off - Use the power switch to turn on the machine.

Unit Is Too Hot
- Thermostat is set too high - Adjust the thermostat setting to a lower temperature.
- Thermostat is defective - Reach out to a licensed technician for help.
Machine Takes Too Long to Reach Temperature
- Thermostat is faulty - Schedule an appointment with an authorized technician to service the unit.
- Gas volume is too low (gas units only) - Call your gas supplier to remedy the issue.
Bottom of Food Product Is Undercooked
- Same area of the oven is used constantly - Place food product in different areas of the cooking chamber to maintain constant temperatures.
- Infinite switches aren’t set correctly (electric units only) - Increase the setting on the bottom infinite switch and decrease the setting on the top infinite switch.
Bottom of Food Product Burns Before the Top Cooks
- Deck temperature is too hot during slow periods - Reduce the temperature setting by 50°-75°F (10°-24°C) below normal bake temperature. Once the temperature drops, immediately increase the thermostat setting by 50°-75°F (10°-24°C).
Food Product Cooks Unevenly
- Area near the walls is hotter than other parts of the chamber - Rotate food products 180° once during baking, or move them to the center of the oven where temperatures are more consistent.
Indicator Light Is Out (Electric Models Only)
- Set temperature has been reached - It’s normal for the light to turn off once the machine reaches the correct temperature.
- Infinite heat control switches are off - Turn the top and bottom infinite heat control switches to any setting other than “OFF”.

- Gas valve is closed - Turn the gas valve on and relight the pilot.
Main Burner(s) Don’t Light (Gas Machines Only)
- Gas valve is closed - Turn on the gas valve and relight the pilot.
