Daily Cleaning Instructions

Be sure to clean your Crown Steam kettle after each use, or when you’re cooking different food products.

  • Step 1—Disconnect the power supply to the unit. Allow the unit to cool down.
  • Step 2—Thoroughly rinse and drain the inside of the kettle to remove all food particles.
  • Step 3—Clean the inside of the kettle using a nylon brush, mild detergent and water.
    • NOTE—Don’t use steel wool, as this can cause damage to the kettle.
  • Step 4—Rinse the inside of the kettle again with water, then drain it by tilting the kettle or using the tangent draw-off valve.
  • Step 5—Wipe down the outside of the kettle with a clean, damp cloth.

Cleaning the Draw-Off Valve

  • Step 1—Remove the valve knob and stem by turning the large hex nut counterclockwise completely. Then, pull the valve knob out slowly to remove the valve stem.
  • Step 2—Wash the valve stem, disk and handle thoroughly.
  • Step 3—Using a nylon brush, water and a mild detergent, clean the inside of the valve body and tangent draw-off tube. This will require some scrubbing to ensure it’s thoroughly cleaned.
  • Step 4—Reinstall the valve stem assembly, then rinse the kettle with warm water.
  • Step 5—Leave the draw-off valve open when not in use.

Cleaning the Dairy Draw-Off Valve

  • Step 1—Prepare two plastic buckets for cleaning: one with a mild detergent and water, and another with just clear water. Using a plastic bucket is essential because it prevents damage to the plug.
  • Step 2—Remove the plug by removing the handle, then turning the plug so it aligns with the pin. Pull out the plug with both hands as the plug is heavy.
  • Step 3—Place the plug into the bucket with the mild detergent, then carefully wash it with a cleaning cloth or a soft brush.
  • Step 4—Once it’s thoroughly washed, carefully transfer the pug to the bucket that contains only water.
  • Step 5—Wash the kettle as you normally would by following the steps above.
  • Step 6—When the kettle is clean, you can reinstall the plug into the body. Insert the plug into the notch first, then turn, ensuring that it’s secure before letting it go.

How to Clean Surface Rust

Surface rust can form if metal utensils are used on the kettle. These utensils can cause scratches that have the potential to rust. It’s advised that you don’t use metal utensils or steel wool on your kettle for this reason. However, if rust does appear, it can be cleaned away with these steps:

  • Step 1—Make sure that the kettle has cooled down to room temperature.
  • Step 2—Spray or pout undiluted white vinegar onto a non-abrasive scouring pad or a cleaning cloth, then apply it to the affected area.
  • Step 3—If rust is still present, repeat Step 2 until the rust has been removed.
  • Step 4—Thoroughly rinse away all vinegar from the surface with clear water. Dry the surface completely, then wait one hour before using the kettle again.
