Microwaves have a lot of advanced, modern applications that can speed up mealtimes and save you hours you can spend on other, more important things.

But when your Frigidaire microwave stops working, it puts breakfast, lunch and dinner plans on hold. So to avoid empty bellies before the work/school morning rush, we’ve written a Frigidaire microwave troubleshooting guide to put your breakfast burritos back on the map.

Frigidaire Microwave No Power & Display Not Working

At first glance if your microwave has no power and the display is not working, you might assume your Frigidaire microwave is broken. Before you call a trusted technician, try these Frigidaire microwave troubleshooting tricks.

  • Microwave isn’t plugged in – Plug the unit into an outlet.
  • Wall switch isn’t turned on – If the outlet has a wall switch, ensure that it’s flipped on. Similarly, sometimes receptacles in the bathroom or kitchen include a built-in test/reset button. Try pressing it and see if that doesn’t restore power to your Frigidaire microwave.
  • Microwave needs to be reset – To reset a Frigidaire microwave, unplug the unit and wait 10 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Circuit breaker has tripped – Go flip the circuit breaker, wait a couple of seconds and check for power.
  • Fuse has blown – If flipping the circuit breaker doesn’t work, it could mean the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced. You can usually tell if a fuse is blown by looking at it. If the filament inside is broken or the glass is discolored, you’ll want to get a certified service technician to pop in a fresh one.
  • Outlet isn’t working – Try plugging another appliance into the same outlet. If it doesn’t, try moving the microwave to another outlet. If the problem still persists, it may be time to call an electrician.

Frigidaire Microwave Has Power but Not Working

In this scenario, the display is lit up, but it’s not working at all. Let’s look at these Frigidaire microwave troubleshooting techniques for you to try:

  • Door isn’t completely closed – If the door isn’t entirely closed, the Frigidaire microwave will not run. Make sure to fully close the door before use.
  • Blockage is preventing the door from closing – Check for packaging materials, dried-on food bits or anything that may prevent the door from latching. More often than not, the plate or container is too big for the microwave.
  • Door is damaged – Check along the door frame for any damage. Sometimes the door latching mechanism can weaken and crack off, or the hinges become loose over time. If nothing glaringly obvious jumps out at you, move on to the next step.
  • Microwave circuit board needs to be reset – Reset the microwave by pressing the STOP button twice before reentering the cook times.
  • Outlet isn’t working – Try plugging another appliance into the same outlet. If it doesn’t, try moving the microwave to another outlet. If the problem still persists, it may be time to call an electrician.

Frigidaire Microwave Isn’t Defrosting

  • A non-microwave safe item has been put in the microwave—Swap the item for something that your user manual has labeled as “microwave safe.”
  • Wrong defrost weight has been set—Set the correct weight recommended by your user manual.
  • Food hasn’t been stirred part way through cooking—Make sure you take the food out halfway through its cooking time and stir it before resuming cooking.

Frigidaire Microwave Power Goes Out Before Time Runs Out

  • Microwave needs to be reset at power outlet – To reset a Frigidaire microwave, unplug the unit and wait 10 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Clock needs to be reset – You can reset the time by pressing the clock button, entering the correct time of day and pressing the start button. Next, re-enter the cooking instructions and see if your microwave doesn't fall asleep on the job now.
  • Circuit breaker has tripped – Locate the switch on the circuit breaker that supplies power to the microwave, flip it and wait a few seconds before restoring power.
  • Settings need to be cleared – Press the STOP button to send a signal to your microwave’s control board to clear its settings or any glitches.
  • Outlet isn’t working – Try plugging another appliance into the same outlet. If it doesn’t, try moving the microwave to another outlet. If the problem still persists, it may be time to call an electrician.

Frigidaire Microwave Not Working After Power Outage

If your area has experienced a power outage, you’ll know because the time display will read 00:00.

  • Microwave needs to be reset at power outlet – To reset a Frigidaire microwave, unplug the unit and wait 10 seconds before plugging it back in.

Frigidaire Microwave Not Heating Food

  • Microwave is sharing a circuit with another appliance—Sometimes if a microwave shares a 20 amp circuit line with another appliance, it can cause a voltage drop that results in slow cooking times. Just move the microwave to an alternate circuit that’s not shared with another appliance that’s in use.

  • Microwave is running with nothing inside—Make sure you always load food into your microwave before running it.

Frigidaire Microwave Turntable Making Noise

Here are a few Frigidaire microwave troubleshooting tips that will help resolve a buzzing, humming, squeaking or rattling noise:

  • Dirty microwave – In some cases, a dirty roller ring or accumulation of food along the bottom of the microwave can contribute to an awful squeaking or rattling noise. Make sure you properly clean your microwave on a regular basis.
  • Misaligned turntable – Ensure that the turntable is seated correctly on the roller ring.

Frigidaire Microwave Causing TV or Radio Interference

  • Microwave is too close to the TV/radio—Your microwave emits electromagnetic radiation at the same frequency as your TV and radio. To stop the static, move the microwave out of range of the radio or TV.
