If you’re looking to learn how to program a Trane thermostat, we can help. Read our helpful step-by-step guide to get through the settings with ease. No matter if you have a touchscreen or manual model, programming the settings will be a breeze.

How to Program a Non-Touchscreen Trane Thermostat

Trane thermostats have an electronic display along with manual buttons that will help you set a group of temperature settings for the week as well as for the weekend. Here are the steps to follow to program your Trane thermostat using the buttons:

  • Step 1. To choose the comfort control you want, whether it be cooling, heating  or auto, press the button under the SYSTEM display on the right side.
  • Step 2. Press the button below set/clock/day/schedule on the lower left side to bring up a new display on the screen. Once up, select the button under the option that reads SET SCHEDULE.
  • Step 3. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to choose the weekday WAKE time and press NEXT to go to the next step.
  • Step 4. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to then choose the desired temperature and press NEXT.
  • Step 5. Use the above steps to set the weekday schedule for LEAVE, RETURN, SLEEP and WEEKEND settings.

Adjusting Fan Settings Manually

Under the FAN option on the display, press the button to select it. Here you can change the fan setting to AUTO or turn it ON to keep it running all the time. If you want to change this, simply select the button beneath the FAN option and use the arrow buttons to select a new setting.

How to Program Touchscreen Trane Models

Luckily, the programming settings are similar for all touchscreen Trane thermostats so you can use the same steps no matter the model you have. Follow these steps to program a Trane thermostat:

  • Step 1. Select the SCHEDULE button on the touchscreen and then select EDIT.
  • Step 2. Indicate the days you want to set by touching each day individually. Or, if you want to set multiple days in the same temperature setting, select MULTIPLE DAYS.
  • Step 3. In order to set the first temperature program, select the WAKE UP button.
  • Step 4. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to select the time of day you want the wake-up temperature to start.
  • Step 5. Using the other set of UP/DOWN arrow keys, set the minimum and maximum temperatures that you want for the air conditioner and furnace to kick on.
  • Step 6. Select the LEAVE temperature settings button and repeat step 5.
  • Step 7. Select the RETURN button to set the time you want the program to begin as well as select the temperatures you want.
  • Step 8. Press the SLEEP button to activate the next program and set the preferred times for nighttime.
  • Step 9. When finished with temperature settings for each day, touch DONE.

How to Override the Program

Simply touch the temperature keys on the display to temporarily set the temperature to a new setting. The Trane thermostat will hold this temperature until the next program is scheduled to start.
