Vulcan Charbroiler Shutdown & Start-Up Instructions
Whether it’s a seasonal location or unforeseen circumstances, there are multiple reasons why a commercial kitchen might close for an extended period of time. Vulcan charbroilers have shutdown and restart procedures, so your unit remain in top shape after sitting idle. Below are instructions from our friends at Vulcan for shutting down and starting up its charbroilers.

Vulcan Charbroiler Shutdown Procedures
- Step 1. Start by cleaning the unit, following instructions in the operator’s manual.
- Step 2. Re-season the charbroiler’s grates.
- Step 3. Turn the main gas shutoff valve off.
- Step 4. Check that each burner valve is in the OFF position.
- Step 5. Cover the cooking surface with a sheet pan. This helps keep the charbroiler clean during extended shutdown.
Vulcan Charbroiler Start-Up Procedures
- Step 1. If your kitchen has been idle for 30 days, set up an appointment with a qualified gas service technician to be onsite during the start-up process. Make sure you also check all gas equipment in kitchen for gas leaks.
- Step 2. Perform a “before-first-use” cleaning of the unit following the directions in the operator’s manual for your specific model.
