Daikin Mini Split Cleaning
The efficiency and dependability of Daikin mini-splits make them essential units wherever they’re located. Since proper maintenance is important, this Daikin mini-split cleaning guide explains how to clean the front panel, filters, outdoor unit and other parts so you can improve its performance and extend its working life.
This information is applicable to mini-split room air conditioner models, including the FTXS18LVJU and CTXS07LVJU. Any testing or repairs outlined in this guide will need to be completed by an authorized technician.
Supplies
- Warm Water
- Cleaning Cloths
- Small Vacuum Cleaner
- Mild Dish Detergent
- Small Stool (to stand on when removing or attaching the front panel)
Avoid using Benzine, gasoline, thinner, polishing compound, and other volatile oils when cleaning your mini-split. In addition, don’t use scrubbing brushes or abrasive cleaning pads. Although it’s good to use warm water, make sure the temperature isn’t above 104°F (40°C).
Pre-Cleaning Procedure
- Step 1. Power down the air conditioner - Use the on/off button to turn the unit off.
- Step 2. Turn off the circuit breaker - Cut power to the unit by turning off the circuit breaker.
Cleaning the Front Panel
Clean the front panel of your mini-split at least once every 2 weeks; if your unit appears dirty, clean it more frequently.
- Step 1. Remove the front panel - Open the front panel, disconnect the shafts and then take the front panel off the unit. Stand on a stool if necessary. For instructions and illustrations on how to remove the front panel, refer to the user’s manual.
- Step 2. Wash the front panel - Wipe the front panel with warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth.
- Step 3. Rinse the panel - Wash away any remaining dirt particles or soap suds with warm water and a clean cloth.
- Step 4. Dry the panel - Wipe away any remaining moisture with a clean, soft cloth. Then, place the panel out of direct sunlight so it can air dry fully.
- Step 5. Reattach the front panel - Once the panel is clean and dry, realign the panel shafts with the slots, push them in and then close the panel. If necessary, refer to the instructions and illustrations in the owner’s manual.
Cleaning the Air Filters
Clean the air filters once every two weeks and replace them once a year. Remember to never wring out the filters or touch the fins with your bare hands since doing so can damage the filters.
- Step 1. Remove the air filters - Open the front panel, push the filter tab at the center of each filter and then pull the filters down and out of the unit. Refer to the user’s manual for more detailed instructions.
- Step 2. Clean the air filters - Maintain the air filters either by soaking them in warm water for 10-15 minutes or cleaning them with a vacuum. If the filters are especially dirty, soak them in warm water with a small amount of detergent, then rinse away any suds.
- Step 3. Dry the filters - Shake off the filters to remove excess moisture. Then, place the air filters out of direct sunlight so they can air dry completely.
- Step 4. Reinstall the filters - Return the filters to the unit and close the front panel. Once again, use your owner’s manual if you need more specific directions.
Maintaining the Titanium Apatite Photocatalytic Air-Purifying Filter
The titanium apatite photocatalytic air-purifying filter should be cleaned once every 6 months and replaced once every 3 years. When replacing the filter, don’t throw away the frame: place the new filter in the frame and then insert it into the unit.
- Step 1. Take out the filter - Open the front panel, unhook the four claws and remove the filter.
- Step 2. Clean the filter - Either soak the filter in warm water for 10-15 minutes or vacuum up any dirt particles on the filter. If soaking, don’t remove the filter from the frame.
- Step 3. Dry the filter - Shake off any excess water and place the filter out of direct sunlight so it can air dry fully.
- Step 4. Reinstall the filter - Return the titanium apatite photocatalytic air-purifying filter to the unit and close the front panel.
Maintaining the Outdoor Unit
Check the outdoor unit at least once a year. If it appears dirty or in need of more frequent maintenance, check the unit as needed.
- Step 1. Check the base, stand and other fittings for decay or corrosion - If necessary, replace the base, stand and other fittings.
- Step 2. Clear any blocks - Remove any object(s) blocking the air inlets and outlets.
- Step 3. Check for proper drainage - Make sure water comes out of the drain hose smoothly during the COOL and DRY operations. If the water doesn’t flow smoothly, remove the clogs.
Resuming Normal Operation
- Step 1. Turn on the circuit breaker - Restore power to the unit by turning on the circuit breaker.
- Step 2. Turn the unit on - Use the on/off button to turn the air conditioner on and resume normal operation.
