Homeowner wiping down their dryer - Electrolux dryer cleaning

Dust from lint and dyes on clothing can eventually build up and stain your dryer over time. Keeping your Electrolux dryer’s interior, exterior and lint trip clean and free of fluff will keep it running efficiently and improve drying times while minimizing the risk of fires. Sometimes, your laundry equipment just needs a little touch-up to transform the laundry room from drab to fab. Join us as we go over Electrolux dryer cleaning tips and to-dos.

Supplies You’ll Need

How to Clean Electrolux Dryer Lint Filter

You should always clean the filter after every cycle. Forgetting to do so can reduce the dryer’s efficiency, restricting airflow and causing longer dry times. Electrolux has programmed their dryers to display a clean lint message so you never accidentally forget.

  • Step 1. Remove the lint filter – The Electrolux dryer lint filter is located inside the door along the bottom. There should be a little lip for your fingers so you can lift and remove with ease.
  • Step 2. Press the center tab to open – The Electrolux lint filter features a clamshell design that you’ll need to open via a small tab near the top to remove the lint.
  • Step 3. Clean the lint filter – Remove the lint from the filter with your fingers or a vacuum. The prolonged use of dryer sheets can cause a waxy residue to build up on your lint filter. If you notice a sticky feeling when removing the lint, then you can wash the filter with warm, soapy water. Be sure to thoroughly dry it before returning it to the dryer.
    • Note: Only handle your lint filter by its plastic frame and never the mesh, for this could damage it. Also, be careful not to overextend the hinge.
  • Step 4. Return the lint filter to the dryer – Snap the filter closed and reinstall the lint trap into the slot.
    • Note: Never use your dryer without the lint filter, as this could damage your unit and cause a potential fire risk.

Drum Cleaning

Electrolux dryer cleaning occasionally involves attention to the drum, especially if you use dryer sheets or you notice stains from non-colorfast fabrics along the interior. You can remove the waxy buildup or stained appearance in only a couple of simple steps:

  • Step 1. Unplug the dryer – It’s always a good idea to unplug electrically powered appliances when using water or cleaning supplies for you and your machine’s safety.
  • Step 2. Prepare your cleaners – If you want to remove a waxy residue from using fabric softener sheets, use warm soapy water. On the other hand, if you’re trying to restore the drum to its original color, opt for a damp cloth and a mild, liquid household cleaner.
    • Note: Do not use cleaning sprays on the interior, as this could damage the machine or cause electrical hazards.
  • Step 3. Wipe down the drum – Using either your warm, soapy water or a mild, liquid household cleaner, wipe down the drum’s interior with a clean cloth.
  • Step 4. Dry the drum – To prevent the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria inside the drum or on the door gasket, be sure to thoroughly mop up any remaining moisture with a dry towel. Leave the door cracked so it can air dry.

Electrolux also recommends calling an authorized service technician once every 18 months to clean the cabinet interior, exhaust duct and lint screen housing. Lint and dust can accumulate on these surfaces through normal operations, reduce equipment efficiency and pose a potential fire hazard.

Exterior Cleaning

The lint filter and drum aren’t the only areas of your dryer that require sponge-and-soap attention. Although keeping the exterior clean doesn’t directly impact its performance, it goes a long way in preserving its appearance and maintaining a sanitary household or workplace.

General Cleaning & Maintenance

To get the exterior sparkling like new, you can wash it with mild soap and warm water. Be sure to never use harsh or abrasive cleaners that might scratch or otherwise damage the finish.
Another Electrolux cleaning tip to keep the exterior polished is to avoid storing any laundry detergent or other products on top of your machine. Operational vibrations can cause movement, scratching the finish or damaging the controls.

Stains

For stains, you can create a mixture of one part bleach and eight parts water and apply the cleaning solution to the stain. Whenever you’re working with bleach, it’s important you don the appropriate protective gear – eye goggles, mask and rubber gloves. Then, thoroughly rinse any affected surfaces with water.

Glue Residue

Tapes and labels can leave behind a sticky residue that attracts dirt and produces an unsightly blemish. To remove, apply a cleaning solution of warm water and mild water and gently scrub with a soft cloth.

Chrome

To keep the chrome parts on your dryer shiny and mirror-like, it’s best to only use a clean, damp cloth and forgo the cleaning chemicals altogether. Chrome is highly sensitive to popular household cleaners, which can cause pitting, dulling and corrosion that can affect the integrity of the exterior finish.
