Master-Bilt Shutdown and Start-Up Instructions

If you need to shut down your commercial kitchen equipment for an extended period of time, it’s important that you know how to do so properly. Shutting down and restarting your equipment properly ensures that it stays functional and safe for use, while also minimizing damage. It’s especially important to know how to shutdown and restart your Master-Bilt refrigeration units for this very reason. Learn how to properly shutdown and start-up your Master-Bilt equipment with the guide below.


Master-Bilt Cabinet Shutdown Instructions

  • Step 1. Turn off and unplug the unit.
  • Step 2. Clean and sanitise the inside and outside of the unit.
  • Step 3. Prop the doors open so they won’t close accidentally. This prevents condensation from forming on the inside of the unit, which could cause mold and mildew.


Shutdown Instructions for Master-Bilt Walk-Ins with PRS-2 Series Refrigeration Systems

  • Step 1. Turn off the system.
  • Step 2. Remove all food product from the walk-in.
  • Step 3. Clean and sanitize the interior of the walk-in.
  • Step 4. Turn off the power to the light circuit. Doing so will also turn the power off for the door frame heater, and prevents the door gasket/door frame from being damaged.
  • Step 5. Prop the doors open so they won’t close accidentally. This prevents condensation from forming on the inside of the unit, which could cause mold and mildew.


Shutdown Instructions for Master-Bilt Walk-In with Remote Refrigeration System

  • Step 1. Turn off the power to the unit.
    • For medium temperature units—Turn the power off to the evaporator section breaker that’s located either at the top of the walk-in or hanging outside.
    • For low temperature units—Place the system into a manual defrost cycle. When the system has pumped down and stored the refrigerant into the condensing unit, turn the power off.
    • For electronic Master Controller-equipped units—manually close the valve by accessing the control board. This lets the system to pump down and store the refrigerant in the condensing unit.
  • Step 2. Find and turn off the breaker to the condensing unit.
  • Step 3. Remove all food product from inside the walk-in interior.
  • Step 4. Thoroughly clean and sanitize the interior of the walk-in.
  • Step 5. Turn off the power to the light circuit. Doing so will also turn the power off for the door frame heater, and prevents the door gasket/door frame from being damaged.
  • Step 6. Prop the doors open so they won’t close accidentally. This prevents condensation from forming on the inside of the unit, which could cause mold and mildew.


Master-Bilt Restart Instructions

  • Step 1. Begin turning the system back on. If outside temperatures are below 60° F, turn on the condensing unit for 24 hours only.
    • For medium temperature units—Once the 24-hour period is over, turn on the power to the light circuit and evaporator section.
    • For low temperature units—Prior to turning on the system, if the unit has an evaporator that’s powered by the condensing unit, disconnect terminal 4 on the time clock and one side of the contractor coil. Once the 24-hour period is over, turn off all power, reconnect the terminal and the contractor coil, and then restore power.
