Saeco Espresso Machine Cleaning

Saeco espresso machines are known for their advanced technology and intuitive design that make brewing a delicious cup of coffee at home a breeze. To ensure your machine continues to produce high-quality drinks as efficiently as possible, this Saeco espresso machine cleaning guide will help maintain your piece of equipment so that it stays in good working order.

Supplies
- Warm Water
- Open Faucet (for cleaning smaller parts)
- Large Container (for catching water)
- Cleaning Cloths
- Spoon (to remove clogs)
- Mild Detergent
- Milk Carafe
- Philips Milk Circuit Cleaner
- Philips/Saeco Coffee Oil Remover Tabs
Be sure to follow all on-screen prompts to complete the following cleaning procedures. If necessary, refer to your unit’s manual for more detail. Since not all parts of the unit are dishwasher-safe, pay close attention to which parts must be washed by hand.
Pre-Cleaning Procedure
- Step 1. Connect the machine to power - Make sure that the power cord is plugged into an electrical outlet.
- Step 2. Turn the unit on - Switch on the unit by pressing the On/Off button if needed.
- Step 3. Place a container under the spout - Put a large bowl or other dish on the drip tray in order to catch any liquid that may drip or leak from the machine during the cleaning process.
Daily Cleaning
- Step 1. Install the HygieSteam container - Be sure to attach the HygieSteam container to the machine before beginning the daily maintenance procedure.
- Step 2. Wipe the milk tube - Clean the exterior of the metal milk tube by wiping it with a damp cloth.
- Step 3. Run the internal cappuccinatore cleaning program - Maintain the internal cappuccinatore by selecting the “HygieSteam” program from the menu, then follow the instructions on the screen.
- Step 4. Insert the milk tube into the holder - Push the metal milk tube into the top of the HygieSteam container.
- Step 5. Run the HygieSteam program - Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the HygieSteam program, allowing water to drip out of the spout and into the container on the drip tray.
- Step 6. Empty the container under the spout - Remove the container that was placed on the drip tray and pour out any water that dripped into it.
- Step 7. Drain the drip tray - Pull out the drip tray and empty any liquid or other debris. Once it’s empty, return it to the unit.
Weekly Maintenance
Internal Cappuccinatore
- Step 1. Pull out the internal cappuccinatore - Open the spout door and remove the internal cappuccinatore from the unit.
- Step 2. Disassembly the parts - Pull the internal cappuccinatore apart so that it’s easier to clean.
- Step 3. Clean the parts - Wash the parts by hand under running water.
- Step 4. Reassemble the parts - Put the internal cappuccinatore back together.
- Step 5. Reinstall the internal cappuccinatore - Return the internal cappuccinatore to the machine. Once it’s firmly in place, shut the spout door.
Small Containers
- Step 1. Clean the milk container - Disassemble the milk container and clean all parts under the tap with running warm water or in the dishwasher.
- Step 2. Maintain the HygieSteam container - Remove the HygieSteam container from the unit and take off the top. Empty the container and then clean both parts either under running water or in the dishwasher. Allow the container and top to air dry before reinstalling them in the machine.
- Step 3. Clean the coffee grounds container - Pull out the coffee grounds container, empty it if necessary and then clean it either with running water or in the dishwasher; however, be aware that the front panel isn’t dishwasher-safe.
Brew Group (Weekly)
- Step 1. Turn the machine off - Use the On/Off switch to power down the unit.
- Step 2. Remove the brew group - Pull out the water tank, open the service door and take the brew group out of the machine.
- Step 3. Rinse the brew unit - Wash the brew group under running water, taking care to clean the upper filter thoroughly.
- Step 4. Air dry the brew group - Let the brew unit air dry. Avoid using a cloth so that small fibers don’t get stuck in the small spaces.
- Step 5. Clean the machine interior - Wipe the inside of the unit with a damp cloth while waiting for the brew group to dry completely.
- Step 6. Reinstall the brew group - Return the brew group to the machine, then close the service door and push the water tank back into its proper position.
Miscellaneous Cleaning
- Step 1. Check the pre-ground coffee container for clogs - Insert a spoon into the pre-ground coffee container and move it up and down in order to clear any clogs.
- Step 2. Wash the water tank - Pull out the water tank, rinse it out and then slide it back into the machine.
- Step 3. Power on the unit - Turn the machine on again.
Monthly Cleaning
Internal Milk System (Deep Milk Clean)
- Step 1. Initiate the deep milk clean program - Use the control panel to begin the deep milk clean program.
- Step 2. Dissolve the milk circuit cleaner - Empty a packet of milk circuit cleaner into the milk container, and then fill it with 16.91OZ (500ML) of water.
- Step 3. Insert the milk tube - Put the lid onto the milk container, and then push the metal milk tube through the top.
- Step 4. Run the deep milk clean cycle - Use the control panel to continue the cleaning cycle, allowing the water to flow from the milk container, through the machine, out the spout and into the dish on the drip tray.
- Step 5. Repeat with clean water - Follow steps 3 and 4 in order to repeat the process, this time with fresh, clean water.
Brew Group (Monthly)
- Step 1. Select the brew group cleaning cycle - Navigate through the menu to select the brew unit cleaning cycle.
- Step 2. Fill the water tank - Pull the water tank out of the machine, fill it with water and then slide it back into place.
- Step 3. Add a coffee oil remover tablet - Place a coffee oil remover tablet in the pre-ground coffee compartment.
- Step 4. Clean the brew group - Initiate the cleaning cycle by pressing the On/Off button. Allow the water to drip out of the spout and into the dish placed on the drip tray.
Resuming Normal Operation
- Step 1. Return any removed parts - Reinstall any parts that were removed from the machine.
- Step 2. Wipe the exterior - Clean the unit exterior with a damp cloth, paying special attention to the front, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
- Step 3. Use the machine normally - You may now resume normal operation of the unit.
