Stoelting Logo New

Stoelting’s line of ice cream machines is perfect for any commercial foodservice establishment. Whether you’re a restaurant, a diner, an ice cream shop or a QSR, Stoelting ice cream units are a delightful addition to your business. If you notice an error code displaying, it’s important to know what they mean and troubleshoot the issue quickly. We’ve broken down common Stoelting ice cream machine error codes so you can reference them easily to get your unit back up and running.

This guide is applicable for F231 gravity-fed floor units.

Error Code: E2 - High Torque

Cause

This error code displays when the controller has sensed the drive motor running for 10 seconds or more at high load. This can be caused by the product consistency adjustment being too high.

Solution

Turn off the cylinder by pressing the On/Off button. Let the product thaw before turning it back on. If the issue is still present after doing this, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E3 - Run Time

Causes

This error code appears when the compressor is running continuously for an extended period of time. This is caused by a few issues like:

  • The mix levels are too low in the hopper
  • Product breakdown
  • Blockage preventing the product from entering the freezing cylinder
  • Ice crystals present in the hopper
  • Airflow in the unit has reduced or stopped (air-cooled units)

Solutions

In the event an E3 code is present, try these solutions to fix it:

  • Check the mix levels in the hopper. If the mix level is low, add more mix.
  • If the mix has broken down, or there’s a blockage, clean and sanitize the unit, then replace the mix with new product.
  • Check for ice crystals by pouring a small amount of product into a clean sieve or strainer. If ice crystals are present, check and adjust the temperature of your cold storage where the mix is held.
  • Check the sides of your unit of any obstructions near air intake ports.

If you’ve completed all of these checks and the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E4 - Clean

Cause

This error code appears when the unit has been left in Clean Mode for longer than 20 minutes.

Solution

Clear the error code by pressing the On/Off button to turn off the cylinder, then turn it back on.

Error Code: E5 - Freezing Cylinder Sensor

Cause

The E5 code will appear if there’s a sensor failure or the sensor is out of range.

Solution

Clear the error code by pressing the On/Off button to turn off the cylinder, then turn it back on.

If the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E6 - Hopper Sensor

This error code is for single hopper machines, and doesn’t typically occur on units. If it does, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E7 - Drive Motor

Cause

An E7 error code will display if the control doesn’t sense any current coming from the drive motor.

Solution

Clear the error code by pressing the On/Off button to turn off the cylinder, then turn it back on.

If the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E8 - Cab Sensor

This error code doesn’t typically occur on units. If it does, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E9 - High Pressure Cutout

Causes

This error code occurs for a few reasons depending on the type of unit you have. In general though, this code will appear if the condenser is dirty or isn’t running as it typically should. Other causes include:

  • Air-cooled units: Clogs or blockages around air intakes.
  • Water-cooled units: Issues or kinks in the water supply hoses.

Solutions

Various solutions include:

  • General: Check the condenser on your unit. Clean as needed, and inspect for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Air-cooled units: Ensure there’s proper airflow around the unit and that no blockages are present.
  • Water-cooled units: Make sure there are no blockages or kinks in the water supply hoses.

If the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E10 - Auxiliary Sensor

Cause

If an E10 code is present, it’s caused by a failure of the temperature sensor on the control board.

Solution

Clear the error code by pressing the On/Off button to turn off the cylinder, then turn it back on.

If the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E11 - Prime Error

This error code doesn’t typically occur on units. If it does, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E12 - Left Hopper Sensor

Cause

This error code displays in the event that there’s a failure of the left hopper sensor, or the sensor is out of range.

Solution

Clear the error code by pressing the On/Off button to turn off the cylinder, then turn it back on.

If the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E13 - Right Hopper Sensor

Cause

This error code displays in the event that there’s a failure of the right hopper sensor, or the sensor is out of range.

Solution

Clear the error code by pressing the On/Off button to turn off the cylinder, then turn it back on.

If the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.

Error Code: E21 - Spigot Open Time

Cause

If this error code appears, it indicates that there’s either a failure of the spigot switch, or the control has sensed that the spigot has been open for 10 minutes or more. This causes the unit to go into Sleep 3 mode.

Solution

Clear the error code by pressing the On/Off button to turn off the cylinder, then turn it back on.

If the error code is still present, contact an authorized service agent.
