If you want to keep your appliance working optimally, this Electrolux refrigerator troubleshooting guide will help you identify and resolve issues quickly and easily.

This information is applicable to a variety of residential units, including single-door refrigerator models, such as the EI33AR80WS, as well as refrigerator and freezer combo units, like the French-Door ERMC2295AS model.

  • Unit is plugged into a tripped Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) - Plug unit into a dedicated circuit with a standard outlet. If issues continue, call an authorized electrician to correct the issue.
  • Circuit breaker is off or tripped/fuse is blown - Turn the circuit breaker on. If issues persist, contact a licensed electrician for assistance.
  • Unit is in the defrost cycle - Lack of compressor activity during the defrost cycle is normal.
  • Freezer control is set to “Off” (units with freezers only) - Set the freezer control to “On.”

Cabinet Is Too Warm

  • Temperature setting is too high - Adjust the temperature setting and allow 24 hours for the unit to stabilize.
  • Air flow system is blocked by items in the unit - Rearrange items in the cabinet so as not to impede the movement of air.
  • Unit was unplugged for an extended period of time - Wait 24 hours for the unit to cool down.
  • A large amount of warm food was recently placed in the cabinet - Give the unit time to stabilize the temperature.
  • Door is opened frequently or is open too long - Prevent warm air from entering the unit by keeping the door closed as much as possible.
  • Door isn’t closed completely - Close the door firmly.

Unit Is too Cold

  • Temperature setting is too low - Raise the temperature setting and give the machine 24 hours to stabilize.

Refrigerator Is Noisy

  • The appliance isn’t level - Adjust the leveling feet to balance the unit.
  • Cracking, bubbling or gurgling sound when the refrigerator cycles on - These sounds are normal as metal parts expand and contract in the compressor or refrigerant circulates through the system.

Unit Runs Continuously

  • Compressor is running - It’s normal for the compressor to make a low humming noise while running unless the appliance is in the defrost cycle.
  • Surrounding environment is hot - More frequent operation is normal when the room where the unit is located is warmer than normal.
  • Unit was recently unplugged - Increased cycling is normal for the first 24 hours until the temperature stabilizes.
  • A large amount of warm food was recently placed in the cabinet - Frequent operation is normal until the food product cools off and the internal temperature stabilizes.
  • Door is opened frequently or is open too long - Keep the door closed as much as possible.
  • Door isn’t closed completely - Make sure the door is closed firmly.
  • Temperature setting is too low - Reset the unit to a higher temperature, allowing 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.
  • Gaskets are dirty or worn - Clean or replace the gaskets.

Condensation Inside the Cabinet

  • Weather is hot and humid - More moisture in the interior is normal during periods of high heat and humidity.
  • Door is ajar - Ensure that the door is closed firmly.
  • Door is open too long - Keep the door closed as much as possible so that moisture doesn’t enter the unit.

Water In the Crisper Drawers

  • Produce in the drawer is giving off moisture - Some condensation from fruits and vegetables is normal; if it’s excessive and your model has a humidity control, adjust the setting to a lower level.
  • Produce is wet - Dry fruits and vegetables thoroughly before placing them in the drawers.

Moisture On The Exterior

  • Heat and humidity is present - More moisture on the unit exterior is normal during periods of hot weather.

Odors Are Present

  • The interior is dirty - Clean the unit with warm water, mild detergent, baking soda and a soft sponge.
  • The filter is dirty - Replace the filter.
  • Foods with strong smells are in the unit - Cover the food tightly to contain the odor.

Door(s) Won’t Close

  • Unit isn’t level - Adjust the feet or relocate the unit to a different location with a more level floor.
  • Items are blocking the door - Rearrange items so that they don’t prevent the door from closing.
  • Refrigerator is touching a wall or cabinet because the floor is sloped - Move the unit to a different location with a more even floor.
  • One door was closed too hard, causing the other to open slightly (units with more than one door) - Remember to close the doors gently; if one is ajar, close it.

Cabinet Light Isn’t Working

  • The light bulb has burned out - Replace the bulb.

Ice Maker Not Making Ice

  • Ice maker is turned off - Turn on the ice maker.
  • Refrigerator isn’t connected to the water line - Connect the unit to the water line.
  • Water supply line is kinked - Check to see if the line was bent when the unit was pushed against the wall; if it’s kinked, straighten it.
  • Water valve isn’t open - Ensure that the water valve is open.
  • Water filter isn’t positioned properly - Remove and reinstall the water filter, making sure to rotate it into the proper position.
  • Water filter is clogged - Replace the filter.
  • Ice maker signal arm is blocked - Remove any ice clumps or other objects that are blocking the signal arm.

Refrigerator Not Making Enough Ice

  • Ice production is less than expected - The ice maker produces about 2.0 to 2.5 pounds of ice every 24 hours.
  • Water filter is clogged - Replace the filter.
  • Water supply line is bent - See if the line is kinked; if so, straighten it out so water can flow freely.
  • Saddle valve on cold water pipe is clogged - Reach out to a licensed technician to remedy the issue.
  • Door is opened too frequently - Use the Freezer Boost button to temporarily increase ice production. In the future, remember to keep the door closed as much as possible.
  • Freezer control is set to warm - Lower the temperature and allow 24 hours for the unit to stabilize.
  • Water pressure is too low - Contact an authorized technician to address the problem.
  • Reverse osmosis system is in the regenerative phase - Reduced ice production is normal.

Ice Cubes Are Freezing Together

  • Ice is used infrequently - Discard the fused ice so that the unit can make a fresh supply. To keep cubes from clumping together, use ice at least twice a week.
  • Ice cubes are filled with water which can leak out, freezing cubes together - Check for a clogged water filter, closed saddle valve or kinked supply line; if issues persist, schedule a service appointment with a licensed technician.

Unit Not Dispensing Ice

  • No ice is in the bin - Ensure that the ice maker can make ice.
  • Dispenser paddle was pressed too long/the dispenser motor is overheated - The motor overload protector will reset itself, allowing ice to be dispensed.
  • Door isn’t closed completely - Keep the door closed tightly so that the unit can maintain the proper temperature for making ice.

Ice Dispenser Is Jammed

  • Ice is melted around the auger - Remove the ice container and then thaw, empty, clean, dry and reinstall it.
  • Ice is jammed between the ice maker and back of the container - Take out the cubes that are causing the jam.
