Federal Display Case Cleaning
Perfect for commercial cafeterias, grocery stores, convenience stores and more, Federal Industries display cases not only make your food products look good but they also help keep them fresh. To make sure they stay sanitary and working properly, they’ll need to be cleaned on a daily and weekly basis. Below are instructions on how to clean your Federal display cases.
These cleaning guides are for models IMSS60, IMSS84, IMSS120, EIMSS60, EIMSS84, CRR, CRB and CD.
Cleaning Federal IMSS60, IMSS84, IMSS120, EIMSS60 & EIMSS84 Display Cases
Daily Cleaning
- Step 1—Take a cleaning cloth and dip it into warm, soapy water, then ring out all excess. Then wipe down the entire interior and dry off with a soft, dry cleaning cloth.
- Step 2—With an ammonia-based cleaner or soapy, warm water, wipe down the exterior surface, and wipe with a dry cleaning cloth.
- Step 3—Clean the acrylic air deflector by first carefully dusting with a damp, soft cleaning cloth, then washing with a mild dishwashing detergent and lukewarm water. Be sure to frequently rinse the cloth to remove any grit before wiping again. Rinse with clear water then dry by carefully blotting the surface with a soft, dry cleaning cloth.
Weekly Cleaning
- Step 1—Follow the “Shelving Installation and Removal” instructions in your operators manual to properly remove the shelving.
- Step 2—Take a cleaning cloth and dip it into warm, soapy water, then ring out all excess. Wipe down the shelves, then wipe with a dry cleaning cloth.
- Step 3—Remove each tower side panel to clean. To remove, lift each latch lever and pull the side panel out and away from the tower.
- Step 4—Remove the tower inner panels to clean. To remove, lift the panel up until the retaining pins clear the key slots hole, then pull the panel out of the tower.
- Step 5—Take a cleaning cloth and dip it into warm, soapy water, then ring out all excess. Wipe down the tower side panels and tower inner panels, then wipe down with a dry cleaning cloth.
- Step 6—Remove the display decks by lifting them up and out of the evaporator tub.
- Step 7—Remove the fan shroud assembly by unscrewing the four retaining screws from the outer flange, then the two screws from the inner flange. Lift the fan shroud assembly to unplug the evaporator fan motor cord(s). Then lift the fan shroud assembly out of the tub.
- Step 8—Using a soft cleaning brush and soapy water mixture, clean the display deck(s). Once cleaned, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely. Wipe off the fan shroud assembly, but do not rinse or submerge fan motors.
- Step 9—Wipe down the whole interior of the case with warm, soapy water, and wipe off completely with a damp cloth. Allow to dry completely.
- NOTE—Do not use cleaners that are solvent-based or any solvent.
- Step 10—Clean the acrylic air deflector by first carefully dusting with a damp, soft cleaning cloth, then washing with a mild dishwashing detergent and lukewarm water. Be sure to frequently rinse the cloth to remove any grit before wiping again. Rinse with clear water then dry by carefully blotting the surface with a soft, dry cleaning cloth.
- Step 11—Once all components have dried completely, reassemble the display.
Cleaning Federal CRR, CRB, CD Display Cases
Daily Cleaning
- Step 1—Clean out all foreign materials and debris from the door opening.
- Step 2—With a damp cloth, wipe down the whole interior of the case.
- Step 3—Using a general window cleaner, wipe down both sides of the doors, including the inside and outside of the front glass. Be sure to not get any window cleaner on the acrylic plastic end panels or top panels.
- Step 4—Clean the acrylic end and top panels carefully by first lightly dusting them with a soft cloth, then wiping them down with a damp soft cloth. Be sure to frequently rinse the cloth to remove any grit before wiping again. Remove grease and oil with kerosene. A spray wax polish can be used to fill in small scratches.
- NOTE—Do not use cleaners that are solvent-based or any solvent.
Weekly Cleaning
- Step 1—Follow the “Door Removal” steps in your operators manual to remove the doors for cleaning.
- Step 2—Follow the “Shelving Installation and Removal” instructions to remove shelving for cleaning.
- Step 3—Unscrew the thumbscrews on the shelf standards, and remove shelves from the case.
- Step 4—Steps 5 and 6 are for refrigerated models only.
- Step 5—For refrigerated models, lift out the display pan from the evaporator tub through the rear opening. Then, remove the evaporator fan shroud by first unscrewing the thumbscrews that are located along the backside of the evaporator fan and on each end of the evaporator coil.
- Step 6—Clean the interior of the case with warm, soapy water. Wipe away with a soft, damp cloth and allow it to dry completely.
- NOTE—Do not use cleaners that are solvent-based or any solvent.
- Step 7—Clean the shelves, shelf support bars, shelf brackets, display pans and shelf lights with a cleaning brush and warm, soapy water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
- Step 8—Clean out any and all foreign material and debris from the inner and outer rear door tracks with a cleaning brush and warm, soapy water. If needed, apply a light lubricant to help the doors move easier.
- Step 9—Using a general window cleaner, wipe down both sides of the doors, including the inside and outside of the front glass. Be sure to not get any window cleaner on the acrylic plastic end panels or top panels.
- Step 10—Clean the acrylic end and top panels carefully by first lightly dusting them with a soft cloth, then wiping them down with a damp soft cloth.
